Choral Scholarships were first set up at the Cathedral in 1995. In addition to a scholarship stipend, the Chapter provides accommodation for the Scholars who join the lay vicars to provide the alto, tenor and bass parts of the Cathedral Choir.
The back row of the Cathedral Choir is a lively, sociable group and in addition to the many musical activities undertaken by the Choir, there is a strong social life and tradition.
So far most Choral Scholars have been in their ‘gap’ year between school and university or Music College. Choral Scholars have gone on to be members of the top choirs at Cambridge and Oxford. Others are now studying singing at the most prestigious music colleges. Choral Scholars wishing to sing in Truro for a year after university are also warmly welcomed. So far Choral Scholars have been recruited not only from Britain but also from Holland, South Africa and the USA.
