The choir has eighteen boy choristers and holds auditions for new recruits each January.
Being a chorister is enormous fun as well as a great training for taking responsibility and being professional at an early age. Many famous people from all walks of life have benefited from their time as cathedral choristers in this way! The boys have a normal school day as well as their choir duties before it starts and after.
The boys are all educated at Polwhele House Preparatory School where they receive generous scholarships from the Cathedral. These scholarships are towards the school's fees and are supplemented by a means-tested additional bursary to ensure that selection is based on ability.
As well as singing for the services in the Cathedral, the boys get the chance to go on international tours with the choir from time to time as well as to sing in concerts and make recordings.
Please contact the school directly on 01872 273011 or visit their website for more information about being a chorister at Truro Cathedral.
The Director of Music often meets prospective choristers and their parents informally before the January auditions to have a chat about the choir. Please contact him at the Cathedral Office to arrange a meeting, either by ringing 01872 245004 or by email.
