In the summer of 2004 the BBC ran their popular television series ‘Restoration’, which seeks to repair and restore one of the nation’s forgotton heritage buildings. At Truro in the same year we commenced on the BIG restoration a 15 year programme to repair and restore the Cathedral costed at a little over £3.6m..
The first phase of the BIG restoration involved cladding the west front of the cathedral with scaffolding for the best part of 9 months. Our partners in this first phase were English Heritage who are funding £200,000 of this initial £1m project. Truro was one of the main recipients of English Heritage restoration grants, but will still had to find over £800,000 in order to complete the work in this first phase.
