Pastoral

Our doors are open to everyone, especially those who want to talk to someone about something that is troubling and those who are feeling lonely. Whether you want to share a concern or want someone to pray with, our chaplains and listeners are always ready to greet you with a friendly ear and offer support.

CHAPLAINS

Chaplains are lay or ordained ministers of the Church of England or other Christian churches. We aim to have a chaplain available in the cathedral every midweek day to offer pastoral ministry. You don’t have to attend church regularly to receive prayer or be offered a listening ear. Pastoral care is always available on request.

 PRAYER

There are several pricket candle stands round the cathedral to pray and light a candle in memory of a loved one. There is a prayer box close to St Mary’s Aisle for prayer requests to be included in the daily intercessions at the early morning communion services.

 PASTORAL CARE VISITING

We have a team of people available to offer help and care to others in the cathedral or wider community. Pastoral visits are about listening, supporting and encouragement.

Other pastoral support options provided by the cathedral include:
Daily prayer at the daytime eucharists for those whose names have been placed on the prayer needs list.
Emergency prayer chain for immediate and confidential prayer needs.
Home Communion for members of the cathedral community who are unable to attend services.
Home or hospital visits to those who are sick and in need of pastoral support.
