Boy Choristers

Boy choristers attend Truro Prep School and join the choir as they enter Year 4, leaving at the end of Year 8.  Being a boy chorister can be a wonderful experience for many reasons; performing music by great composers with an outstanding choir directed by specialist professional musicians, taking part in live broadcasts for television and radio, CD recordings and foreign tours, and being part of a close team with a special purpose and a strong sense of identity.
Chorister auditions take place annually where experienced staff from Truro Cathedral and Truro Prep School assess each application carefully to decide whether a chorister place is right for the child and for the choir.

Boys will sing a short piece of music (for example, a verse from ‘Away in a Manger’) They will be assessed on their voice, reading skills, musical ear and general aptitude (for example, concentration and understanding of commitment).

Choirboys are educated at Truro Prep School where they receive a 25% scholarship. This can be supplemented with a means-tested bursary with the aim that the selection is based purely on ability.
