Holocaust Memorial Day - Candle Lighting Service

Holocaust Memorial Day (27 January) is an annual event that takes place each year on the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.  It remembers the genocide of the Second World War - but further reflects on the causes of genocide and hate crime right up to the present day.  This year the theme is 'torn from home' and focusses on the plight of refugees.  As part of the Holocaust Memorial Day events a candle lighting service will take place at the cathedral on 25 and 26 January, whereby local groups who have been the subject of hate crime will reflect upon their experience from stands in the cathedral.
