The service of Nine Lessons and Carols originated at Truro Cathedral under the first bishop, Edward Benson. Since then it has been adopted almost universally by every church of every denomination and is a marvellous way to celebrate Christmas as we hear the story of the birth of Christ from the very beginnings of God’s plan of redemption, through the prophecies of the coming Messiah, to the account of the extraordinary events surrounding the birth of Jesus.
There are two Nine Lessons and Carols at Truro Cathedral. This service is the first and will be sung by the Girl Chorister with the Lay Vicars and Choral Scholars, the second on Christmas Eve at 7 pm sung by the Boy Choristers with the Lay Vicars and Choral Scholars. All welcome. Booking is not necessary for this service.
In light of the government’s ‘Plan B’ announcement, wearing a mask is compulsory in all areas of the cathedral unless you are exempt.
This service will be live-streamed on this page at 7pm for those who are unable to attend in person. The replay will be available to watch on this page and our YouTube channel after the service has finished. If you have any problems viewing the live-stream or replay, please visit our YouTube channel
The cathedral is at the heart of Christmas, with festive events and services (including live-streaming), and free entry to all who visit. We rely on public donations at Christmas, and throughout the year, to continue to offer sacred space and common ground to our community. Please give what you can this Christmas to help us continue our essential work and pass on what is precious to future generations.
To give regularly by Direct Debit, please use the Parish Giving Scheme. Single donations can be made through JustGiving.
