One of the great Easter traditions is the bringing of the Paschal Candle into the cathedral symbolising, as it does, that the resurrection light of Christ is present again among his people. This opportunity was denied us last year with the on-set of the coronavirus crisis – but we are delighted that this year we can gather and do this again – even if it will be in a more simple form than in past years.
Join us on High Cross at 6.00am to hear readings from the Bible that tell of the story of salvation. When we have heard these, the Paschal Candle will be blessed and prepared for the year before being lit – at which point the resurrection will be proclaimed for the first time.

The Proclaiming of the Easter Light will be live-streamed on this page at 6.00am via our Facebook page
The Paschal Candle will then be taken into the cathedral and put in place for a simple First Eucharist of Easter. Please note that all are welcome to attend the outside service and we ask that all congregation members adhere to current social distancing guidance. For people who wish to attend the following Eucharist service advance booking must be made via our Eventbrite page. Only 50 tickets are available for this service.
