Ein Deutsches Requiem – the German Requiem that is so different from other requiems, being less directed at the afterlife of the departed, aiming rather at providing comfort for those left behind. It contains some of the most beautiful and profound music written by Brahms, and cemented his reputation as a major composer. Soloists include Cheryl Rosevear (soprano), Dawid Kimberg (baritone) a former Jette Parker Young Artist for The Royal Opera.
In contrast, the concert opens with a lively orchestral piece written a hundred years earlier - Haydn’s Cello Concerto No. 1 in C major which, since its rediscovery in the 1960’s has become a staple of the cellist’s repertoire. Danielle Jones is the soloist for this intricate work.
Martin Palmer conducts Truro Choral Society and Truro Symphony Orchestra, leader Philip Montgomery-Smith, in this programme of 18th and 19th century masterpieces.
