Gift Aid Makes Your Money Go Further

I am often asked how donations to the cathedral can be made to go further, and the obvious answer is… Gift Aid!

Making a Gift Aid declaration means charities like the cathedral can claim an extra 25p back from the tax man for every £1 you give, and it doesn’t cost you any extra. What a great idea!

The scheme started way back in 1990, and on average in the past 5 years it has distributed £1.4 billion each year to good causes. In 2023, for instance, Gift Aid provided nearly £40,000 extra for the cathedral – money that pays essential bills (like maintenance, gas and electricity) to keep the building open for everyone, all year round.

If you would like to make your giving go further, it’s simple. All you need to do is complete a Gift Aid declaration. Gift Aid can be collected however you choose to support the cathedral – by cash, card or direct debits (for example, through the Parish Giving Scheme ).

If you're a UK taxpayer, signing up for Gift Aid will mean the cathedral can reclaim tax on all the donations you've made in the last four years, and also any you make in the future. If your circumstances change, and you no longer want to Gift Aid your donations, don’t forget to contact the cathedral (and any other charities you support) straight away. The full details of the Gift Aid scheme are on the government’s Gov.uk website.

Thank you very much to everyone who has already made a Gift Aid declaration. If you’re not sure, or want the cathedral to send you a declaration form, please contact accounts@trurocathedral.org.uk or leave a message with the office on 01872 276782.

Giving regularly to a great way to support the working life of the cathedral. We rely heavily on our generous donors to maintain the building and continue its legacy. Your generosity, and your Gift Aid declaration, are very much appreciated.
