Mars: War and Peace - Accessible Viewing Session
See the Red Planet at Truro Cathedral - Mars: War and Peace by Luke Jerram.
Measuring seven metres in diameter, the artwork features 120dpi detailed NASA imagery of the Martian surface, made from NASA Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter data, Visible Earth series, NASA. At an approximate scale of 1:1 million, each centimetre of the internally lit spherical sculpture represents 10 kilometres of the surface of Mars. Accompanying the sculpture is a newly created sound composition by BAFTA and Ivor Novello award winning composer Dan Jones.
Mars Accessible Viewing Sessions are designed to accommodate individuals with varying needs for a more relaxed viewing experience. During these sessions, the number of permitted visitors will be limited to provide a comfortable environment. The soundtrack accompanying Mars will be played at a lower volume, and visitors will be kindly asked to keep noise levels low whenever possible.
There is no ticketing and no need to book to attend the Accessible Viewing Sessions, however, please be aware some queuing may be required due to the reduced capacity.
There will be no charge for entry to see Mars at Truro Cathedral during Accessible Viewing Sessions, with donations of £5/adult encouraged. Your donation enables the cathedral to bring events such as Mars to the community of Cornwall as well as care for the historic building.
Please note:
There is ramp access at the front of the cathedral in High Cross near the front entrance. Nearly all parts of the cathedral are accessible by ramp, but St Mary’s aisle is not accessible by wheelchair. There is an accessible toilet near the Chapter House.
