On Sunday 8 September Truro Cathedral warmly welcomed lots of new members to the cathedral choir family. During the special Eucharist service led by Canon Simon Griffiths, five new boy choristers, five new girl choristers, four new choral scholars, a new associate lay vicar, a new organ scholar and the cathedral’s new acting assistant director of music were formally and officially welcomed to the choir.

Speaking about the service, Christopher Gray, Director of Music, said, “Having said fond farewells to our leavers in July the focus is now on those beginning their journeys with us. It can be daunting for the new scholars - some living away from home for the first time - and for the boys and girls, not to mention their families whose lives will now revolve so much around the cathedral’s daily rehearsals and services. It is always moving to see new members being admitted to the choir and we got the new academic year off to a wonderful start with music by Parsons, Stanford, Tavener and Stopford.”

As part of the service, choristers Arthur, Finlay, Pax, Ted, Helena, Katherine and Lowenna were also formally admitted as Head Choristers as they begin their final year with the choir.

Congratulations to them and a warm welcome to new choristers, Alfie, Joseph, Joseph, Sam, Cerys, Jessica, Lowenna, Molly, Oriel, new associate lay vicar Charlie and new scholars, Esmée, Ed, Harry, Rufus and Manuel.
