Liskeard School and Community College win Arts Project

Rev'd Alan Bashforth of Truro Cathedral with teachers and pupils from Liskeard Community School holding up a roof slate with hand written messages

We were pleased to welcome the pupils of Liskeard School and Community College on 24 April to collect their prize for winning the Hate Crime Awareness arts project exhibited as part of Holocaust Memorial Day in the cathedral in January.  Holocaust Memorial Day on the 27th January recalls the genocide of the Second World War and is on the day Auschwitz was liberated. Devon and Cornwall Police use this day as an opportunity to speak about genocides past and present to local pupils indicating  how the language of hate can lead to such actions. The cathedral has partnered with the Police and the Cornwall Faith Forum for the past three years in holding events around the day. The art exhibition was part of the event this year.

Pupils are pictured here with myself Canon Alan Bashforth, their teacher Mrs Carlin and Devon and Cornwall Police Youth Intervention Officer Geoff Turner Moore.  They can be seen holding a slate with their handwritten messages which will go onto the cathedral roof.
