Luxmuralis Returns to Truro Cathedral for a third time with The Storytellers: An Immersive Light and Sound Show
Luxmuralis is set to return to Truro Cathedral for a third time with another immersive light and sound show called 'The Storytellers'. After the success and overwhelming positive responses to Space in January 2025, and Time in January 2026, the cathedral is excited to bring 'The Storytellers' by Luxmuralis to Truro in January 2027; from Monday 11 – Saturday 16 January.
“The Storytellers” is an immersive experience that takes the audience on a journey through multiple sound and light artworks, from the earliest oral traditions to the classics of world literature.
Each artwork acts as a chapter of storytelling history as you walk through ancient texts and become immersed in the realms of famous authors' imaginations. From children’s classics to fantasy, from romance to poetry and legends, the storytellers' crafts are illuminated with stunning visual displays and accompanied by a captivating soundscape, creating a breathtaking celebration of humanity’s timeless tradition of sharing stories.
Luxmuralis is the internationally acclaimed artistic collaboration between Peter Walker, sculptor, and David Harper, composer, creators of immersive fine art, light, and sound installations presented in many of the most significant historic, cultural, and sacred spaces across the UK and abroad.
During the day, the cathedral will appear to visitors as it usually does. Each evening, however, installations will be projected throughout the space, transforming the look and feel of the cathedral.
This specific immersive light and sound show has already found huge success at Winchester, Durham, Exeter and Chelmsford Cathedrals, with event goers being left in awe. Luxmuralis installations have been seen by thousands throughout the UK at many historic sites, being the pioneers of such artworks in prestigious cathedrals in the UK including St Pauls, Westminster, Canterbury and abroad such as Washington DC National Cathedral in the USA.
Sean O’Neill, chief operating officer at Truro Cathedral, said, “Cornwall is renowned as a place of rich storytelling and the cathedral is no exception. In January, we look forward to honouring and adding to that tradition as Luxmuralis visits us again with another different spectacular show, this time celebrating an array of well-known storytellers.”
Peter Walker, artistic director of Luxmuralis, said: "We are delighted to be returning to Truro Cathedral. With 'The Storytellers', we've explored one of the things that connects every culture and every generation, our love of stories. Long before books, stories were shared through voices, music and imagination, bringing people together and helping us understand the world around us. We wanted to create an experience where visitors of all ages can lose themselves in that journey, surrounded by light, sound and the beauty of this remarkable space. Our hope is that people leave not only inspired by the stories we share but are reminded of the stories that have shaped their own lives."
For those wanting to visit the show, a sign-up form is available on the Truro Cathedral website to register interest and be the first to hear about when tickets go live.
The full light show takes about 45 minutes to complete, but visitors are welcome to stay and immerse themselves for as long as they like once they’ve entered the cathedral at their designated time slot. It is anticipated that the visit will take about an hour.
