Makasong: Phantom of the Opera
We were thrilled to support Makasong a Community Signing Choir, run by TALKmore Cornwall in their latest project.
TALKmoreCORNWALL CIC was launched in 2018 to make Makaton workshops more accessible across Cornwall. The organisation chose the name TALKmoreCORNWALL to reflect its vision of encouraging Cornwall to "talk more", recognising the important role Makaton can play in helping people with communication difficulties find their voice, build meaningful connections, and reduce social isolation.
At the heart of TALKmore CORNWALL's work is the belief that children who need Makaton grow up to become adults who need Makaton. The organisation also recognises the benefits Makaton can bring to adults who acquire communication difficulties as a result of illness, injury, or other medical conditions.
This wonderful Phantom of the Opera in Makaton signed by the Makasong choir was filmed in the cathedral with the organ played by cathedral director of music at Truro Cathedral James Anderson-Besant.
The project was recently covered by ITV News West Country including an interview with the Interim Dean, Revd Ali Hogger-Gadsby.
