New Cathedral Scissor Lift Thanks to the Friends of Truro Cathedral
We are delighted to announce the arrival of the cathedral’s very own scissor lift, generously funded by the Friends of Truro Cathedral. The machine was recently delivered, marking an exciting and significant development for the cathedral’s ongoing maintenance and care.
Until now, the cathedral has relied on hired equipment for work at height, incurring regular costs and limiting access to hard-to-reach areas. With the arrival of the new lift, the team can carry out essential tasks more efficiently and safely, and without the constraints of hiring schedules.
The scissor lift was put to immediate use as preparations began for the festive season, including the installation of the cathedral’s Christmas tree. Beyond Christmas, it will play a vital role in the routine cleaning of high-level areas that have historically been inaccessible, as well as in electrical work, lighting adjustments, and microphone wiring and placement.
Health and safety is also a key area where the new equipment will make a difference. It allows the team to avoid ladders and scaffolding towers wherever possible, creating a significantly safer working environment for all involved. The caretaking team will undergo full IPAF training with LTC, the local company that the cathedral has hired lifts from in recent years.
In a light-hearted nod to a well-known film character, the machine has affectionately been named Edward (Scissor Lift), after the Tim Burton film, Edward Scissorhands!
The cathedral extends its heartfelt thanks to the Friends of Truro Cathedral for their generosity and continued support. Their gift will make a lasting difference to the care, safety, and upkeep of this sacred building.
