St Mary’s Aisle Appeal boosted by Cornwall Historic Churches Trust

Cornwall Historic Churches Trust helps the congregations of historic churches of all denominations to afford urgent repairs to keep them weathertight and prevent damage to the interior. The Trust’s foundation document explains its purpose well: "The churches are still there, still praying through the storms and the rains. We must not let down the past which has loved and cared for them".

One of the churches that is being assisted by the Trust is St Mary’s Aisle – the functioning parish church within Truro Cathedral. There are serious leaks in the roof, that are damaging the walls, floor and ceiling and threatening the 18th century Byfield organ. Recognising the urgency of the situation, the Trust have very generously decided to increase their contribution to the Appeal by £6,000, bringing their total grant to £10,000.

“I am absolutely delighted about the increased grant from the Cornwall Historic Churches Trust. These make such a difference to everyone concerned with preserving Cornwall’s sacred heritage. This latest grant means that we have now raised £160,000 towards our target of £450,000 to repair St Mary’s Aisle – more than a third of the way there!”
