Truro Cathedral Choir: The Start Of A New Year

On Sunday (8 September 2024), the annual first day of term proceeded in grand splendour with the admission of our new musicians. In all, we welcomed 14 wonderful new members to the choir community from far and wide. We are very glad to have Benjamin Larham with us as our long-awaited Tenor Lay Vicar. Benjamin has come back to Truro after some years away living and working in the Netherlands.

Our scholarship scheme continues to thrive, with this year bringing us four choral scholars (Adam Long, Lewis Cobb, Millie Montgomery-Smith and William Hammond). Jeremy Wan has joined us as our organ scholar, having previously had a year as the organ scholar at Guildford Cathedral.

The boys choir has now grown to beyond the capacity of the stalls as we welcomed six new probationers (Bobby, Hugo, Rupert, James, Edward and Wilf), and promoted last-year's cohort of year 7 choristers to be Head Choristers in their final year. Congratulations go to Ollie Beale-Walker, Matipa Mawonera, John Woodworth, Harris McLachlan and Joseph Taylor. We look forward to your leadership and musicianship continuing to grow and inspire those around you.

The girls choir continues to flourish and reach new hights as we welcome two new probationers, Isla and Harriet. We congratulate Natalie Philips as she embarks on her last year in the choir and takes up the position of head chorister. We look forward to seeing your continued brilliance and inspiring musicianship.

The mornings' service was attended by the Head Teachers of both Truro School and Truro Prep school, as well as the many supportive friends and family of the choir members. What a joyous occasion we had - welcome everyone!
