Truro Cathedral Installs Four New Chapter Members

On Sunday 8 June, it was a great joy to welcome and install four new non-residentiary Chapter Canons to the cathedral.
Sarah McLachlan, Patrick Newberry, Deborah Rowland and Trelawny Williams swore legal oaths and were blessed by the new Bishop of Truro, The Rt. Revd. David Williams. They were then robed in their red honorary canons' robes and placed in stalls within the cathedral by the Dean, who took them by the hand and led them to their new seats in the Quire. This special event took place during Choral Evensong, so that the legalities are surrounded by prayer and worship and accompanied by the beautiful music of the cathedral choir.
Cathedral Chapter members are the trustee body of the cathedral, helping the cathedral to fulfil its duties both legally and financially, but Chapter members are also practising Christians, helping the cathedral to stay faithful to the teachings of Jesus Christ and helping to shape the cathedral's dreams and visions for the future.
Dean Simon Robinson said, "It was a great joy to welcome the four new cathedral Chapter members to their stalls in the great Quire of Truro Cathedral. The cathedral Chapter acts as the board of trustees and sets the strategic vision for our life as a Christian community. I very much look forward to working with the new members in the coming months and years. The service was a wonderful offering of time and talents to Almighty God."
