Love in Every Stitch Exhibition: Banners of the Mothers' Union
The Love in Every Stitch exhibition is a fascinating display of more than 50 historic banners from all over Cornwall, celebrating the 150th anniversary of the founding of Mothers' Union in 1876.
Every banner is hand-stitched, and represents love for families and love for God. At the core of Mothers’ Union is our belief that faith and compassion can transform lives. During the period of the exhibition, on Wednesday August 19th (10.00 – 15.00) there is the annual free Family Fun Day for under-10s, organised by Mothers’ Union.
Mothers' Union
Mothers' Union is an international women-led Christian movement with 4 million members. It was founded by Mary Sumner in 1876, and it is the largest volunteer network in the Anglican Church, active in 64 dioceses across Britain and Ireland. Our members are not all mothers, or even all women – they are female and male, single and married, parents and grandparents.
We are a diverse and inclusive community present in approximately 84 countries around the world, working together for a future where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Our grassroots membership organises and participates in programmes on locally identified needs, such as literacy, parenting, and business skills.
"Together, by the grace of God... we can calm each other when we are afraid; strengthen one another when we are weak; and work together to raise our children to the glory of God. Unity is strength." – Mary Sumner
Mothers' Union in Truro Diocese
Mothers’ Union has branches across Cornwall. Our friendly meetings are open to all – members, supporters and guests. Usually we have a speaker, always we have cake!
Sometimes we go out on trips together e.g. to the Donkey Sanctuary.
In the Diocese of Truro, Mothers’ Union gives annual donations to support local charities that work with families – Cornwall S.P.A.C.E, Kernow Young Carers and the men’s and women’s refuges, safe places for people affected by gender-based violence. Some members knit Teddy Vean, to give away to children, or tiny blankets needed by premature baby units. We support the RISE UP campaign, against domestic abuse in all its forms.
Donations
Mothers’ Union (Diocese of Truro) is a registered charity number 249867. Donations from the Love in Every Stitch Banner Exhibition will go towards the work of Mothers’ Union locally and overseas.
