Three Spires Singers with Baroque ensemble Charivari Agréable

Monteverdi: Vespers of 1610

Three Spires Singers perform one of the great masterpieces of the early Baroque period – Monteverdi’s Vespers. Written over four hundred years ago, a work of extraordinary ambition and variety, bringing together the rich polyphonic tradition of the Renaissance with the new musical language of the Baroque. This remarkable work will be performed with Charivari Agréable, one of the world’s most famous exponents of music of this period.

Alongside elaborate settings of the traditional psalms, we encounter virtuosic solo voices, elaborate instrumental writing, dramatic contrasts and moments of intimate simplicity.
This is music which was written to fill a great church with sound; there can surely be few more appropriate places to hear it than Truro Cathedral, with its opportunities for spatial effects and contrasts.

Soloists: Sumei Bao-Smith & Sarah Keating - soprano
Benjamin Irvine-Capel - alto
James Robinson, David de Winter & Luke Henson-Baines - tenor
Jacob-Dennison & Charlie Murray - bass

Conductor: James Anderson-Besant
