Sung Holy Communion for Cranmer Day attended by the Prayerbook Society
We host the local Prayer Book Society for their annual day in commemoration of Thomas Cranmer. A service of Holy Communion using their traditional liturgy of the 1662 Book of Common Prayer and include sixteenth century music written by Orlandus Lassus.
Thomas Cranmer was an influential and key figure in the history of the Church of England and his lasting legacy is one that many value. At the same time, here in Cornwall, there will be many for whom the history and the imposition of both the Book of Common Prayer and the English language is one of serious concern, anger and pain. As a cathedral community, we also recognise and honour those who lost their lives in The Prayer Book Rebellion in defence of their Cornish identity and of this sacred land.
